Cisco Completes Broadware Acquisition

Published: June 30, 2007

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cisco has completed the acquisition of privately held Broadware Technologies, a supplier of IP video surveillance software that enables management, recording and storage of audio, and video and Web-based monitoring over wide area networks (WANs). The system can be integrated into both network and analog cameras.

The acquisition bolsters Cisco’s security capabilities as video surveillance becomes increasingly integrated with IP networking systems. This is the latest in a long string of acquisitions by the networking giant as it moves further onto the edge of the network through acquisitions of companies providing end-user hardware and applications.

The 38 employees at BroadWare’s Santa Clara, Calif., and McLean, Va., offices will be absorbed into Cisco’s Emerging Market Technologies Group. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
