Published: April 30, 2007

LAS VEGAS —The CTO of Cisco’s Emerging Markets Technology Group, Guido Jouret, provided the keynote address at the 2007 ISC West.

His discussion, in part, focused on convergence and its impact on the security industry.

Referring to the physical security industry, Jouret says, “You are the critical panel to the marketing of any company like [Cisco] that wants to introduce new technology.”

He also highlighted the relevance of strategic business partners as emerging technology drives industry momentum toward IP-networked business processes. With some words to the wise, physical security must prepare for a future that will be forever joined with IT.

All safety and security systems, Jouret says, “will become applications of intelligent infrastructure. That intelligent infrastructure will be shared, so you need to make your requirements clear to IT and other organizations, with whom you will be sharing that infrastructure. You need to get more familiar with some of these IT security and IT technologies so that you can have these conversations with your IT counterparts.”
