A new law that requires carbon monoxide detectors in all residences in New York City is expected to be a windfall for the alarm industry. As of Nov. 1, there must be a CO detection device within 15 feet of anywhere someone would sleep in homes and apartments in all five boroughs of the Big Apple. That has brought on a rush of requests for CO equipment among New York homeowners and apartment building owners, who will be entitled to a $25 per tenant reimbursement for the devices.
“New York is so huge and the opportunity is mind boggling,” says Geoff Winters, president and CEO CO detection system manufacturer Electronic Control Systems LLC. “It’s a windfall for the alarm industry.”
Winters company’s UltraGuard CO detection system goes beyond the usual CO alarms by not only sounding an alarm but also shutting down the home’s furnace and determining the CO source.
