WASHINGTON – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers regarding approximately 400,000 dry fire sprinklers that are likely to fail during a fire.
The faulty Star ME-1 dry sprinklers made by Sprinkler Corp. of Milwaukee Inc., formerly known as Star Sprinkler Corp., were made between 1983 and 1995.
Building owners are being urged to check their sprinkler systems. Because the fire sprinkler company is no longer in business and has no assets, it cannot conduct a recall or replace sprinklers for free.
The sprinklers are installed in nursing homes, supermarkets, warehouses, hospitals, and office buildings, among other places.
