Complaints Lead Wichita to Revise False Alarm Ordinance Fees

Published: December 28, 2010

WICHITA, Kan. — After receiving complaints from residents, the city council here voted to rescind registration fees for burglar alarm systems.

In August, council members voted to implement an ordinance that required alarm owners to pay an annual $25 registration fee to offset administrative costs for false alarms, reports KWCH.com. However, the recent 5-0 vote on Dec. 21 waives that fee for owners who don’t have a false alarm in the previous year. If a resident has a false alarm the following year, that individual must pay the $25 fee.

The changes will take effect on Sept. 1, 2011.
