COMPUDYNE’S NORMENT GROUP WINS $22M CONTRACT TO PROVIDE TURNKEY PACKAGE FOR NEW N.J. PRISON

HANOVER, Md.

CompuDyne Corp. has won a major contract for a prison security installation in Essex County, N.J. The deal totals $22 million and was awarded to the Norment Security Group, a subsidiary of CompuDyne, to provide security for the Essex County Improvement Authority‘s new Essex County Correctional Facility. The project, the largest single prison security contract ever awarded, will house 2,000 inmates and will cover approximately 750,000 square feet. Norment will provide a complete turnkey package, including the furnishing and installation of its most advanced electronic security system.

The job will encompass touchscreen control, video surveillance, intercom, paging, wireless staff duress alarm, programmable logic controls, perimeter security and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Construction is scheduled to begin in May, with a forecasted completion date of October 2001. Norment is one of the world’s largest providers of physical and electronic security products, as well as integration and maintenance systems to the corrections and courthouse markets.
