HANOVER, Md.

CompuDyne Corp. has announced several major contract awards for bullet-, blast- and attack-resistant windows and doors for its Norshield Security Products subsidiary.  Heightened concern about international terrorism has resulted in record backlogs for this segment of the industry.  Northshield’s backlog is currently $18 million, compared to $6.5 million at Dec. 31, 1998, an increase of 20 percent.  The company has landed new contracts for new Federal Reserve Buildings in Atlanta and Birmingham, Ala., totaling $4 million, as well as contracts for classified State Department work and other government agency projects totaling $5 million.  Northshield’s main business is supplying protection to United States and foreign embassies throughout the world.  CompuDyne’s seven businesses include Norment Security Group, SYSCO Security Systems and Quanta SecurSystems.
