The state of Connecticut is considering legislation to
require all residences to have carbon monoxide (CO) alarms.
A bill before the state legislature would require the
installation of CO alarms in one- and two-family homes
constructed after Oct. 1 of this year.
The New Haven Register reports 50 people per year
die in Connecticut and 500 are injured from CO poisoning.
The legislation would be similar to HREF=t_ci_newsView.cfm?nid=2033>a law in Alaska that
requires CO detectors in homes, the Alaskan law
requires the alarms in homes regardless of when they were
constructed. New York
City also requires CO
detectors in residences.
The bill, Raised House Bill No. 6894, is currently in the
Connecticut House’s Joint Public Safety and Security
Committee.
