Cooper Notification Launches Regional Alerting System

Cooper Notification, a platform of Cooper Industries Ltd., has launched the patent-pending Roam Secure Alert Network™ (RSAN) for emergency mass notification in Philadelphia and five surrounding counties.

Known as ReadyNotifyPA, the interoperable regional alerting system can alert more than five million citizens residing in the nation’s fifth largest metropolitan area.

“Providing information to the public as quickly as possible is one of the most critical factors in saving lives and preventing injuries during an emergency,” says Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. “I am proud to be here today with my esteemed colleagues from across the region to announce a public warning system that will greatly enhance emergency response in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.”

The launch marks the second stage of the ReadyNotifyPA in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties, which is now deployed to the public. The first stage was launched to emergency management and public safety officials in the Southeastern Counter Terrorism Task Force (SECTTF) in August 2007.

Philadelphia is the seventh major U.S. city to deploy Cooper Notification’s RSAN. The solution allows emergency management officials to send E-mail, text messages, phone calls and faxes to the public via cell phones, pagers, Blackberry®, PDAs and other mass notification media during an emergency.

“Whether we are dealing with floods, winter storms, or threats to homeland security, emergencies don’t stop at our borders,” says Delaware County Council Vice-Chair John Whelan. “Implementing a public warning system that transcends county lines will make our region better prepared for any kind of emergency.”
