Crooks Trying to Cut Links With Alarm Companies

SALT LAKE CITY

Police in Salt Lake City are looking for those responsible for a string of incidents where businesses’ phone lines are being cut to keep them from communicating with their alarm companies.

Television station KSL reports a total of 21 banks and businesses have been hit – some in broad daylight – and police think it may be the work of thieves trying to break in. One retail store has been hit four times in the past two months.

Police point at the ease the vandals have been able to access the phone lines, but Ray Hixenbaugh, operations manager with Peak Alarm, told KSL that alarm companies can put in a system to detect when someone is trying to tamper with the lines.
