ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Communication Systems Inc. (CSI) has inked a more than $319,000 contract to provide this city with maintenance and monitoring of its surveillance camera network.
Terms call for a three-year agreement with two optional one-year extensions with CSI, an Upper Macungie Township security company that has been Allentown’s vendor for the camera system since 2007, according to The Morning Call.

Allentown has a citywide network of 161 cameras used by police and 911 dispatchers to monitor and prevent crime. The $319,578 contract includes maintenance and supervision of interior and exterior security cameras, control systems and security alarms at City Hall and other city buildings, according to the newspaper.
Four vendors attended a mandatory meeting in March before submitting a proposal for the contract, but ultimately CSI was the only vendor to submit a proposal, Beth Ann Strohl, the city’s purchasing agent, told the newspaper.
CSI’s previous contract with the city expired Dec. 31, and in January, City Council approved a no-bid stopgap contract worth $62,000 to continue the company’s services for several months until a formal RFP could be completed.
