Custom Alarm Honored for Workplace Flexibility, Effectiveness

Custom Alarm is celebrating the announcement of being awarded a 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.

The awards program recognizes organizations that are dedicated to making work “work” for both the employer and the employees. Custom Alarm’s flexible work time, a donation match program, an associate care committee program, corporate volunteer program and great benefit package including 401k match earned the company recognition for its efforts.

“We are a family owned and operated business and our environment is very family-orientated. We know that our success is a direct result of the people who work here,” says Leigh J. Johnson, CEO, Custom Alarm. “We work very hard to make it a rewarding place to work, which is why our average length of employment is over 9 years. We are very honored to have been recognized with this award.”

The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility is part of When Work Works, an ongoing initiative from Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and the Twiga Foundation.

Applicants were evaluated in a rigorous two-step process, first comparing the employer’s application to nationally representative data from Families and Work Institute’s National Study of Employers, and then corroborating the employer responses through a survey of employees.

The 2008 Sloan Award winners will be recognized nationally, including a full-page congratulatory ad in USA Today. Winners will also be featured in the next issue of the Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work, published by Families and Work Institute.
