It was only this past month that President Barack Obama and President Xi Jinping of China held a news conference at the White Rouse to announce an agreement the two nations had reached to refrain from cyberattacks against companies for commercial advantage.
Just over three weeks later, cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike says the Chinese are up to the same tactics. CrowdStrike wrote in a blog post on Monday that it has tracked a number of attacks on U.S. technology and pharmaceutical sectors leading up to and after Xi’s visit to the United States.

“We detected and stopped the actors, no exfiltration of customer data actually took place,” the post read.
President Obama said on Sept. 25 that the U.S. would watch carefully to see if the Chinese would follow the agreement. According to CrowdStrike, the Chinese are not.
“Seven of the companies are firms in the technology or pharmaceuticals sectors, where the primary benefit of the intrusions seems clearly aligned to facilitate theft of intellectual property and trade secrets, rather than to conduct traditional national-security related intelligence collection which the Cyber agreement does not prohibit,” the post read.
