D.C. Surveillance Camera Rebate Program More Popular With Residents Than Businesses

A vast majority of the 230 rebates given since February were residential.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Residents here are taking advantage of a city program that issues rebates to homes and businesses that install exterior video surveillance. However, the same cannot be said for business owners.

According to a report by the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants, only four of the 230 rebates given since February are businesses. Meanwhile, three went to nonprofits and the rest were residential, as documented by the Washington Business Journal. The 230 rebates helped fund 630 surveillance cameras.

“While it is too early in the program to determine whether further expansion is warranted, we believe the overwhelmingly positive response from residents so far shows the importance of the program,” the report says.

The program provides up to $500 rebates for homeowners and $750 for businesses.
