Dallas Repeals Business Alarm Policy

The Dallas City Council voted 11-5 to repeal an ordinance that required private security officials to verify commercial burglar alarms before police would respond.

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert had pushed for the repeal, saying the ordinance unfairly burdened Dallas business; however, Dallas police argued to keep the ordinance on the books, saying false alarms before its implementation were a tremendous waste of police time and resources, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Burglar alarm industry officials say they will work with the city to develop a new policy.
