DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Davenport City Commission unanimously voted to pass an ordinance to combat false alarms, as the commissioners voted 5-0 on Monday night.
Residents’ third false alarm within a 365-day period will result in a $50 fine, according to The Ledger, with the fines going up after each false alarm after that. The maximum fine is $500 for eight or more false alarms.
If the false alarms are a result of technical problems, residents must prove they are in the process of fixing the problem with the alarm company, according to City Manager Amy Arrington.
“This has been a big problem recently and police are having to take time out of their day and respond to these,” Arrington said. “If it’s a technical problem and you’re not calling your alarm company to fix the issue, the fine is doubled.”
The Ledger reports a second reading is required to finalize the ordinance.
