MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – After an intruder stole hundreds of dollars in cash at a church here following a fundraising effort over the weekend, a local alarm company said it will install an alarm system with motion detectors at the church for free.

Senior Pastor Leroy Robbins of the New Life In Christ Church told WXYZ-TV, an ABC affiliate, he believes it was an inside job. On Sunday night (Nov. 15), the thief broke the front church door and broke into a safe, according to the news report.

“They had to know because they went straight to it,” Pastor Robbins said. “They didn’t want to hurt anything else. They didn’t want to tear up anything else. They didn’t want to take anything else.  They came for one thing and that was the money.”

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case.

Bill Hanges, a commercial sales manager at Guardian Burglar Alarm, told WXYZ-TV it’s hard to understand for many people that someone is possible of such malevolence, especially in a house of worship.

“Society has gone to the extreme when you have to go to a church,” said Hanges. “As a family owned business, we always try to help the community. In this instance, as soon as we saw that, we got everyone together.  It was our responsibility to come out.”

Pastor Robbins told 7 Action News the donation is a true blessing for the financially strapped church.

“We surely appreciate Guardian stepping in and being a blessing to the church, by putting a security system in.  We also appreciate Channel 7,” said Pastor Robbins. “God still has beautiful people on this earth, doing wonderful things and helping the ones out who have a need.”
