Q: I just lost another DVM that fell off an alarm cabinet when I was testing the panel. I have tried using clips to hold my meter in place but they just don’t always have an easy place to connect. Any suggestions?
A: Here is one of my all time tips for giving yourself an extra hand when working with meters and testing. Get some magnetic tape with the adhesive back. Stick a few strips to the back of your DVM and now you can just stick it anywhere on the inside or outside of a metal alarm control box. Fluke also makes a handy strap for your meters as well. Q: I need to run some alarm wire under a carpet. I would rather not pull up the carpet. Any suggestions on what I can use?
A: I have been told that if you can get your hands on some of those long, thin, flexible steel window blinds (try going to a store that sells and repairs them) they will slide nicely under a carpet. Labor Saving Devices also makes a tool for this that you might want to check out.
