DETROIT – Officials here are considering expanding video surveillance network that would merge both private and public camera feeds.

The Detroit Police Department would like to link security cameras that already exist in the community, such as those at gas stations and traffic lights, MLive.com reports.

By connecting the cameras to police headquarters, the department thinks police officers can respond more quickly to a crime.

It is unclear when the department would deploy the new system or how much it will cost.
