The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has developed an online test to allow sports stadium security managers to determine their security needs. The first-of-its kind, multiple-choice test was developed by the DHS with stadium and security industry officials and is so thorough that it could take days to complete.

The online test was announced Jan. 11 at a gathering of stadium officials in San Diego according to the Union-Tribune.

“We will provide you with a comprehensive overview of your facility and where you stand with the rest of your peers,” William Flynn, director of the Homeland Security Department’s Protective Security Division, told the gathering. “This tool is the wave of the future. We can’t do this alone at the federal level.”

The test, designed for sports and event facilities with a capacity of more than 30,000, is free and voluntary. Some of the questions ask about a facility’s lighting, surveillance cameras and security protocols.

The computer program will immediately grade the exam and give the stadium manager a confidential assessment. For a more detailed evaluation by the DHS, the stadium manager can request personal attention.
