DHS Secretary Johnson, FBI Director Comey to Address ASIS 2016

Johnson and Comey are expected to address the rising specter of cyber threats, among other pressing national and global issues.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and FBI Director James Comey have been added to the roster of keynote speakers at the 62nd annual ASIS Int’l Seminar and Exhibits to be held Sept. 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.

Johnson will address attendees at a luncheon on Sept. 12 (12:15 p.m.), and Comey will speak to members of the CSO Center for Leadership & Development, as well as invited guests, on Sept 13 (11 a.m.).

In his remarks, Comey will focus on cybersecurity and the FBI’s strategy for combatting cybercrime. Both sets of remarks will underscore the importance of strong private sector collaboration, according to ASIS Int’l.

In addition to Johnson’s attendance, the DHS Office of Infrastructure Protection is supporting the inaugural ASIS Security Week in Orlando, which will kick off with a free Preparedness and Prevention Community Seminar Sept. 11 at the Hyatt Regency. Security Week, developed in response to the violent attacks on citizens where they work, live and play, will provide free programming to educate small business owners and those responsible for securing community institutions on the fundamentals of security and preparedness planning.

Also on tap will be the following featured speakers: Journalist Ted Koppel (Sept. 13); Elliott Abrams will discuss the many adversaries the U.S. faces in the Middle East and in the Islamic world (Sept. 14); and Beck Weathers, a survivor of the 1996 Mount Everest tragedy and inspiration for the motion picture, “Everest” (Sept. 15).
