Inaugural DICE Corp. Tech Security Summit Explores New Alarm Monitoring Advances

NASHVILLE — DICE Corp., a leading provider of software solutions for security industry monitoring and accounting applications, as well as PERS, GPS and video technologies, held its inaugural Tech Security Summit here April 29 – May 2.
Security and alarm monitoring professionals convened at the Sheraton Grand for a week of networking, product demos, educational sessions and panel discussions featuring DICE engineers, vendors and guests.
The event was combined with the company’s annual user group conference, with DICE CEO Cliff Dice explaining, “I had the idea for a tech security summit because a lot of people in the security industry were coming to us asking if we could contribute to more panels and be part of the discussion. We are the predominant infrastructure provider in the industry, so it made sense that we would explore new ways to bring those leaders together with our engineers and expand our annual summit to include everyone in the industry.”
Dice started off the event explaining how committed his company is to the security industry. DICE isn’t focused purely on offering software, but providing an entire infrastructure for the industry.

Alarm Monitoring Solutions for Every Need
The majority of the event consisted of presentations on DICE’s extensive Matrix software and module solutions. Here is a recap of products and services shown/demoed.
DICE’s Matrix Monitoring is a customizable browser-based software solution for alarm centers. Matrix Monitoring allows for the user to access live and recorded video for alarm verification or video tours, features GPS mapping for mobile devices and a built-in customizable work flow manager, and more.
New features reviewed included integrated call management, report manager, queued data entry enhancements, live history scroll and operator chat/messaging. Learn more in the video below.
Matrix Service Management is a universal task management and scheduling system. The solution includes Hands-on Manager and Rapid Scheduler systems, which allow the user to assign tickets, manage service technicians with an interactive calendar and mapping system, and access notes.
Matrix SMS CRM is an alarm, service and billing automation tool that allows central stations to quickly send links to the end user. The user can then handle alarms, manage service visits and pay their bill through a web app. See how it works in the video below.
IPtelX is the carrier network behind DICE. Together, the companies can provide an alarm company the ability sell fiber and broadband connections to customers, creating a “triple play” package that provides internet, telecom and alarm services. This allows alarm companies to,”basically, in some cases, 200 times or 300 times their RMR per subscriber,” Dice told SSI.
IPtelX says it is the single largest alarm processing house in the United States. The company is carrier-neutral, meaning it is invested in many networks, and can leverage several paths to and from any origin or destination within the internet and PSTN.
CloudEye is a Cloud-based video recording system that is compatible with any camera that provides an RTSP stream. The solution includes a gateway that connects to the same switch as the IP cameras or encoder on premise.
The gateway then creates a connection between local cameras over RTSP and CloudEye over HTTPS. See it in action in the video below.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Integration
DICE recently chose Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its accounting platform. The integration allows for seamless integration with all existing DICE solutions, fully automated reporting of RMR and attrition, reporting of industry metrics, such as EBITA, Steady-State Net Operating Cash Flows and creation multiples, and prebuilt security industry-specific dashboards and business intelligence tools for sales, operations and finance managers.
DICE’s Josh Greko discussed new changes and additions in UL 827 and UL 2900 and how they would affect monitoring centers.
Greko also went over cybersecurity concepts, a basic introduction to security assurance principles, information security systems and specific issues pertaining to risk assessments and cyber threats.
He introduced attendees to next generation firewall (NGFW), which includes the functions of traditional firewalls, but with the addition of deep packet inspection — compared to stateful inspection performed by first and second generation firewalls.
Greko stressed the importance of having your cybersecurity tested and employing appropriate legal representatives. He warned that if a monitoring center was hacked and a building burned down because it couldn’t send out a notification fast enough, the company could be sued for not fixing those vulnerabilities.
Celia Besore, executive director of the Monitoring Association (TMA), made a presentation on how Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP) can improve communication between monitoring centers and law enforcement.
Besore also walked attendees through level one of TMA’s online operator training. The training consists of recently revised modules that teach topics such as effective communications, the monitoring process, false alarm prevention and more.
