Diebold Inc., a provider of integrated self-service and security solutions, announces it has acquired Vangren Technology, a company specializing in the sales, service and installation of electronic security solutions throughout Australia and New Zealand. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Vangren has installations in financial institutions, government facilities, hospitals, airports and other corporate facilities. The company has a staff of 71 employees located throughout Australia. Casey Van Engelen, Vangren’s managing director, will join Diebold as division manager, Electronic Security Solutions, Australia, and will oversee the newly formed operation.

According to Reg Bohler, managing director of Diebold Australia, there is an overall heightened awareness of security issues that is accelerating market growth in the region. Additionally, new advanced security technologies have increased demand, such as digital video recording, which offers a cost- effective solution to help prevent fraud. “We are pleased to expand the core competency upon which Diebold was founded globally, into Australia,” said Bohler. “In addition to further market share growth, we see significant benefits to increased service coverage for current and future customers.” He also noted that by leveraging Van Engelen’s experience, coupled with the expanded national presence, this acquisition strongly positions Diebold for continued growth.
