ORLANDO, Fla. — Less than a month after Disney, Universal and SeaWorld installed metal detectors at entrances for the holidays, two of the theme parks took another step towards increasing: Additional security employees.
The Orlando Sentinel reports Disney and Universal are adding additional resources to protect guests from possible terrorism and mass shootings.
Abraham Pizam, dean of the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality, expects the number of additional security employees to be in the hundreds.
The decision by Disney and Universal is just the latest in a wave of increased security measures at potential large gatherings of people in the wake of the attacks on Paris and San Bernardino, Calif.
“I think in 2016, we’re going to see the implementation of more security measures, heightened security … than we’ve seen in the last three decades,” said Dennis Speigel, president of International Theme Park Services, a consulting firm.
