DuPont Canada Inc. has acquired a 51-percent share in Brookdale Intl. Systems Inc., the Vancouver-based manufacturer of the EVAC-U8(r) emergency escape smoke hood. Ward Metzler of DuPont will serve as Brookdale’s president and represent DuPont on the board of directors. Brookdale founder John Swann will continue as CEO. Incorporated as a private corporation in 1990, Brookdale designs and manufactures respiratory protection escape devices (RPEDs) based on technology developed for the EVAC-U8. Since 1994, more than 190,000 units have been sold in greater than 40 countries.

According to Swann, “This is a tremendous opportunity for us. As a small company with a leading-edge technology, we have been very successful in identifying and developing new markets for our products. Now, as a partner with DuPont, we are confident that together we can realize the true potential of our products on a global basis.”
