BRADENTON, Fla.—Edwards, a global manufacturer of fire alarm, mass notification and hazard warning systems, announced an expansion of its Genesis LED series with extended candela outdoor models.
According to the company, the new models are engineered for extended light output performance required by outdoor, wet and wash-down applications, especially in large and wide-open spaces.
“Enhancing the Genisis LED Outdoor Series with broader light coverage brings its superior performance, cost and energy savings to even more types of harsh environments,” says Jon Hughes, VP, product management, Edwards. “We are committed to constant enhancement of our robust portfolio of efficient and effective emergency notification systems to help keep people and places protected, and this enhancement dramatically expands our offering for extreme applications.”
Genesis LED Outdoor Candela Products Designed to Withstand a Range of Environmental Elements
New Genesis LED Outdoor extended candela strobes and speaker-strobes are specified to deliver a light output of up to 115 candela. The series brings cost and energy savings with its ultra-low, constant current draw across customizable candela settings, facilitating voltage drop calculations and eliminating onsite calculations for future changes in light output needs. Edwards asserts this allows for more devices per loop, reduced wire size, and longer wire runs, while offering backwards compatibility with legacy Genesis devices. The process is said to offer efficiency and cost savings including energy savings—current draw is 86% lower vs. legacy Genesis appliances.
Edwards points out the combination of the appliances’ extended light output and rugged construction make them a solution for harsh environments, including in large and open-space environments. The series can also be used for applications exposed to extreme weather, frequent wash downs, and extreme dust. This includes parking garages, indoor walk-in freezers, manufacturing floors, zoo enclosures, the outer envelopes of buildings, and many more.
The Southern company boasts the appliances can handle aggressive climates, with an operating temperature range of -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 151-degrees Fahrenheit, and the products are NEMA 4X / IP66 UL listed to withstand wash down and dust ingress environments. Exceeding those standards, the new Genesis LED products have been tested to withstand water and dust ingression with an IP67 device rating.
The new solutions, like all products in the Genesis LED series, can be used in new and retrofit projects.
Edwards goes on to state the appliances are robust, designed for outdoor or indoor deployment, ceiling or wall-mount, with field-configurable output settings (light, audio, voltage). The products also designed to provide high-level audio capabilities that exceed the Speech Transmission Index (STI) ‘Excellent’ clarity rating.
Additionally, Edwards recently added wall-mount, low frequency horns and horn-strobes to the Genesis LED series, bringing all the efficiency, cost-savings and ease-of-use. The new low-frequency models address audio requirements suitable for occupants in sleeping environments, where a deeper, attention-grabbing 520 Hz low frequency tone is more likely to awaken individuals. Additionally, Edwards has added flexibility for its partners by making the devices field-customizable for sound and light and adding a room-side wiring plate to simplify installation and save time.
