Ericsson announces it has signed a letter of intent for a major expansion and upgrade of Saudi Telecommunications Co.‘s (STC) existing GSM network in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement is valued at more than $300 million and will increase network capacity by a million subscribers. Ericsson will deliver a full GSM infrastructure and service portfolio on a turnkey basis, enabling STC to carry out the rapid introduction of advanced intelligent network (IN) services, such as mobile Internet. When completed, the expansion will more than double the number of GSM lines in the Kingdom. The project will also include the implementation of features such as wireless emergency roadside phones throughout the large nation. Ericsson provides communication solutions worldwide that combine telecom and datacom technologies with the freedom of mobility for users.
