IRVING, Texas — The Electronic Security Association (ESA) has joined the Emergency Services Sector Coordinating Council (ESSCC).
Started in 2004 by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the ESSCC is an independent, unfunded coalition of groups representing the emergency services sector (ESS). The ESS is defined as the nation’s system of preparedness, response and recovery elements that form the first line of defense for preventing and mitigating the risk from physical and cyber attacks, and manmade and natural disasters. Its membership comprises law enforcement, fire service, search and rescue, and other first responders.
John Chwat, director of government relations for ESA, will serve as the association’s representative on the council. ESA Executive Director Merlin Guilbeau will serve as the alternate. ESA’s role will be to represent the leadership of the electronic security and fire/life-safety industry within the council, providing general direction to the group and working with other participating members. ESA will also identify and leverage existing programs and provide technical expertise to the proper authorities.
ESSCC meets twice a year and holds occasional conference calls. Members are also involved with council initiatives year-round. Other ESSCC members include the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), National Association of State Fire Marshals, Int’l Association of Chiefs of Police and more.
