Experimental Plan Speeds Airport Security

WASHINGTON

Under a trial consolidated airport security plan, frequent travelers will be issued a smart card containing biometric data, Time magazine reports. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s Registered Travel program – to be launched at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport – allows qualified passengers to avoid routine security screening and use a special fast lane.

Eligible passengers must commit to an extensive background check and pay an annual fee.

The trial is expected to last three months.
