Extreme CCTV’s Moondance® PowerDome p/t/z camera was used to record the birth of a rare black rhino calf at Paignton Zoo in Devon, United Kingdom. Featuring an LXR CCD zoom module for image capture in low light and night vision performance under infrared, the Moondance enabled zoo staff to record high-resolution footage of the birth in nighttime conditions.
The event is believed to be the first time the delivery of an endangered black rhino has been filmed. Paignton Zoo, one of only four zoos in the United Kingdom housing rhinos, is a registered education and scientific charity dedicated to conserving global wildlife. Zoo staff filmed the rhino birth to stress the need to preserve the species.
