WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Director Michael Huerta said on Tuesday that more than 500,000 consumer drones have been registered with the agency since December. Huerta made the announcement at the White House on the future uses of drones in the United States.
The FAA added that it took 100 years for roughly 320,000 regular aircraft to be registered with U.S. officials, so the 500,000 number in so little time is considered to be impressive, according to QZ.com.
In June, the FAA introduced regulations for the commercial use of drones, but kept out the use of drones for deliveries because it prohibits out of sight flying. However, the FAA says it is testing out these types of services.
