Apple appears to have some heavy-hitters on its side in its court battle against the Department of Justice.
Facebook, Snapchat, Google and other Silicon Valley companies are working on increased efforts to secure its data, according to the Guardian. The news comes in the midst of Apple’s publicized battle with the DOJ over whether it should assist authorities in hacking the iPhone of one of the shooters in the San Bernardino shooting investigation.
Facebook is working to encrypt voice calls on its WhatsApp messaging service and is considering adding more security to its Messenger service, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Snapchat is working to secure its messaging system and Google is continuing to work towards its encrypted email project.
Apple, which has stood firm against the government’s request for the company to hack into the phone, is scheduled to appear in federal court in California later this month. The company opposes hacking the phone, citing privacy rights of citizens.
