Fairhope (Ala.) Repeals Alarm Ordinance, Raises Violation Fees to $200

Published: July 26, 2011

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The city council here approved an alarm ordinance, which increases fines for false alarms and requires businesses and residents to register their systems.

The new rule allows alarm owners three false alarms per calendar year, reports the Press-Register. After that, users will receive warning citations for the infractions. Offenders will now pay $50 for a fourth false alarm; fifth, $100; sixth and more, $200.

The ordinance repeals a 2005 rule, in which alarm owners only had to pay a maximum of $100 for the fifth violation and each one thereafter. The new ordinance goes into effect Jan. 1, 2012.
