WASHINGTON – The FBI’s annual crime report showed a 3.9% increase in the number of violent crimes that occurred in 2015 compared with the year before.
The estimated figure, while higher than the FBI’s 2014 violent crime approximation, is still lower than the report’s findings in the years before 2012.
Overall, the FBI recorded 1,197,704 violent crimes in 2015, including 90,185 rapes and 15,696 murders.
Guns were used in 71.5% of murders, 40.8% of robberies and 24.2% of aggravated assaults.

There were approximately 327,374 robberies in 2015 accounting for roughly $390 million in losses.
The report also showed a 2.6% decline in the number of property crimes committed in 2015, with losses estimated at $14.3 billion.
It is the 13th straight year crime estimates collectively have declined.
