Florida Alarm Company Owner Donates Security System to Habitat for Humanity
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — After thieves stole dozens of power and hand tools at a Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s construction site last month, one alarm company here decided to take action to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.
Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale President John Ray III donated SonaVision wireless video security systems to protect Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s two jobsite containers.
“New wireless technology is great for spoiling burglars’ plans,” he says. “Habitat can move the system around on construction jobsites without needing electricity. If anyone tries to tamper with the containers, our central monitoring station will instantly know it and alert law enforcement.”
Prior to the break-in, Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s volunteers were completing the development of 30 homes at a Rock Island subdivision in Fort Lauderdale. The bandits were able to swipe table saws, chop saws, compressors, drills, ladders and 75 hammers, temporarily stopping the work at the construction site.
Currently, the South Florida community is donating used and new tools to help volunteers complete the job, according to Habitat for Humanity of Broward Executive Director Perry Ecton.
Since its inception 29 years ago, Habitat for Humanity of Broward has partnered with 328 families in Broward County to provide simple, decent, affordable housing for families in need.
