Florida Transit Authority Rolls With Verint to Enhance Public Transit Security

Published: February 25, 2007

Verint Systems Inc., provider of analytic software-based solutions for security and business intelligence, announces that the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) in Tampa, Fla., has selected its Nextiva Transit solution to enhance security and improve operations on its municipal buses and streetcars. Verint has received a seven-figure order for the solution deployment.

HART’s local, commuter express and In-Town Trolley routes span 250 square miles with more than 10 million riders annually. In support of the transportation authority’s ongoing security enhancement initiatives, Verint’s Nextiva Transit solution will help ensure a secure environment for staff and riders on its fleet of more than 200 buses and streetcars. Additionally, the solution will deter vandalism and theft, accelerate emergency response and provide video evidence of significant security events.

Nextiva Transit was selected as the video solution for HART’s Computer Aided Dispatch, Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL), and Security Services system. The solution will be integrated with onboard wireless systems already installed by prime contractor and Verint partner Orbital Transportation Management Systems, provider of GPS-based fleet management and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for the public transportation industry. The integration enables HART to automatically upload video when a bus returns to the depot.
