Frisco (Texas) PD to Enforce New False Alarm Ordinance
In an effort to reduce false alarms, city officials here have passed a new ordinance that regulates residential and business alarms.
The ordinance, effective March 1, requires an annual fee of $35 for residential and business alarms, reported the Star Local News. Furthermore, a new fee schedule has been issued to penalize those with excessive false alarms within a 12-month period.
In order to monitor alarm activity, the police department has hired PMAM Corp., a third-party contractor specializing in false alarm management solutions, to manage the Frisco alarm program.
The ordinance also requires alarm permit holders to provide contact information, including names and telephone numbers, for three people who will be able to respond to a false alarm.
In 2009, the Frisco’s police department responded to 9,841 alarms. Of those, more than 99.6 percent were false alarms, according to a press release from the police department.
