For the third quarter of 2004, GE reported earnings of
$4.051 billion and revenues of $38.3 billion. The earnings
were 1 percent higher than last year’s third quarter and
revenues were up 15 percent compared to last year’s third
quarter of $33.4 billion.
The GE Infrastructure division, which also includes GE security products, posted highlights for the year as well. GE placed EntryScan™ and Itemiser™ explosives detection devices to protect attendees at the Olympic Games, at the Democratic and Republican national conventions and at the reopening ceremony of the Statue of Liberty.
GE Infrastructure also entered the global security industry with CommerceGuard™. CommerceGuard makes a palm-sized security device that helps detect unauthorized access to a container and monitors the container in transit for signs of intrusion.
Finally, the company signed new water and process technologies contracts, which will supposedly generate a customized service backlog of more than $50 million. The contracts are supposed to drive new growth in pure water outsourcing and emergency mobile water and equipment.
