GE to Ensure Maritime Shipping Security

GE’s security business has entered the global cargo security market with a security solution for use in maritime shipping. To ensure container integrity for manufacturers, customs and importers, GE says its solution detects unauthorized access to cargo and detects signs of intrusion while in transit. GE intends the solution to create an international standard for in-transit freight security without precluding trade.

Specifically, a small container security device (CSD) fastens without tools to the door jam within any standard maritime container, while the manufacturer arms the device with a unique code via wireless handheld device. The security device relays its status to fixed readers at ports and indicates when and where it was opened since initial sealing. Custom officials would then use a similar handheld wireless device to arm and disarms the CSD.

All data is secured and communications and transmissions protected by encryption.
