Girl Whose Abduction Was Caught by Security Camera Found Dead
SARASOTA, Fla.
An 11-year-old girl whose abduction was caught by a
surveillance camera has been found dead behind a church not
far from the spot where she was abducted. A man, suspected
by police to have been the man seen in the video kidnapping
of Carlie Brucia, has been charged with her murder.
A camera at Evie’s Car Wash
captured the abduction
of Carlie Sunday night. Police say Joseph Smith is the
man seen in the video kidnapping of Brucia and has been
accused of her murder. Authorities also say DNA belonging
to Brucia has been found in Smith’s vehicle.
Authorities credit the surveillance video with providing
important clues to Smith’s capture. With the help of
experts from NASA and the FBI, the video was enhanced to
see a clear image of the man’s face as well as
distinguishing features like tattoos and a nametag. Police
say the face, tattoos and nametag match Smith.
