Greater Alarm’s sixth Charity Golf Classic on Sept. 26 gave a $30,000 boost for Child SHARE and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.
This year’s tournament at Strawberry Farms Golf Course in Irvine, Calif., featured several sports celebrities among the participants, including Olympic champion Bruce Jenner, ex-Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo, and former Angels pitchers Jim Abbott and Kirk McCaskill.
With proceeds from this year’s tournament, Greater Foundation, a not-for-profit organization created by Greater Alarm in 2001, has contributed a total of $217,000 to Child SHARE, which finds foster families for children, and Habitat’s programs to build affordable housing.
“This annual fundraiser is not only friendly and fun to host, it’s a privilege to be able to contribute to these two great causes,” George De Marco, Greater Alarm president, said in a statement. Bert Ross, tournament chairman, says the Greater Alarm Charity Golf Classic is becoming a recognized Southern California event. “Over the last few days, I have received numerous E-mails, phone calls and comments from golfers, vendors, customers and staff saying that not only is our tournament the most enjoyable, but that it is also their favorite event of the year,” Ross says.
