LONDON

Two of the largest electronic security manufacturers in Europe have agreed to merge. Securicor, based in Great Britain, has agreed to a merger with Denmark’s Group 4 Falck. The new company will be known as Group 4 Securicor plc. The boards of each company have approved the deal, expected to be completed in the coming months.

Each company manufactures burglar alarms, fire alarms, access control systems and CCTV systems, and each does some business in North America. The merged business, with a value of $7.1 billion, will be based in London. The merged company will be the second-largest security group in the world, second only to Securitas.

Access control manufacturer AMAG Technology Inc., of Torrance, Calif., is a subsidiary of Group 4. A spokesperson for AMAG says the merger won’t have any effect on AMAG’s operations in North America.

A majority of Securicor’s operations in North America involve access controls for airports.

“By combining our expertise in specific sectors, we will build a focused, leading security services company which will bring substantial benefits to the shareholders, customers and employees of both organizations,” says Colin Sharman, who has served as chairman of Securicor and will now be deputy chairman of the merged company.
