GVI Security Acquires VMS Software, Other Technology
GVI Security Solutions Inc. has acquired a suite of Video Management Systems (VMS) software and related technology from software provider PacketNVR LLP. The acquisition was effected through GVI’s wholly-owned subsidiary, GVI Video Management Solutions.
GVI Security is a provider of video security surveillance solutions that features the complete Samsung Electronics line of products. With the addition of the PacketNVR product suite, the company plans to provide proprietary value-added system management solutions that complement Samsung’s IP video camera line, says GVI COO Joseph Restivo.
“The GVI Video Management Solutions suite of products will significantly enhance our solutions for the growing IP video surveillance markets by providing a platform to support Samsung IP cameras across the full range of applications from small retail chains to larger and more complex projects,” Restivo says. “We believe that we will now be able to provide a VMS solution with features that are easy to use and reduce the complexity of IP video security.”
According to Restivo, the features will be suited for existing distribution channels as well as new channels and customers. The company expects movement to become an important aspect in the video surveillance markets as it continues to transition from analog to IP.
Tom Galvin, who was instrumental in developing the VMS technology for PacketNVR, will be leading GVI Video Management Solutions. Galvin previously worked for companies such as General Electric, Verint and MCI Telecommunications. He will assist GVI Security in developing new VMS offerings in support of Samsung IP products as well as other new products the company anticipates introducing in the future.
