Habitec Security Acquires Local Rival Bigelow Security
Habitec Security has expanded its reach in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan with the acquisition of Bigelow Security.
TOLEDO, Ohio – Habitec Security, a privately-held security company, has acquired its rival, Sylvania, Ohio-based Bigelow Security for an undisclosed amount.
Since 1990, Bigelow Security has provided intrusion detection systems and security systems monitoring to customers in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
Founded in 1972, Habitec Security designs, installs and services both residential and commercial security systems throughout Ohio and Michigan. The firm has two full-service branches and operates the only locally owned central station in Northwest Ohio.
Because the two companies had a similar background and reputation, Habitec Security President John Smythe believed Bigelow would be the perfect fit for his firm.
“Our team welcomes Bigelow Security customers to Habitec Security,” Smythe says. “We will work hard to make sure that it is a seamless transition. With a proven track record for over 40 years, Bigelow customers can be reassured that we will be here today, tomorrow and in the future to provide exceptional security solutions to our customers.”
As part of the deal, Jim Bigelow, the founder of Bigelow Security, will join the Habitec team as an independent security consultant.
“Habitec Security is a good fit for our customers and I am pleased to join the team to continue to help with the success of Habitec,” Bigelow says.
In June, Habitec Security was awarded the 10th annual Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Award for its ongoing efforts to reduce false alarm dispatches.
An in-depth look at the company’s award-winning practices will be the featured cover story in the October issue of SSI.
