TOLEDO, Ohio – Habitec Security is crediting enhanced call verification (ECV) for a 57% reduction in false alarm dispatches.
When the firm first implemented two-call verification in 2012, it initially saw a reduction in false alarm dispatches by 20%. However, over the past two years, Habitec Security strategically built a plan that has contributed to a reduction in false alarm dispatches.
This year alone, the firm has posted a dispatch rate of 0.25.
“Our strategy has helped bridge the gap with law enforcement,” Habitec Security President John Smythe says. “We need to be sensitive to that fact that police are being asked to do their jobs with fewer resources.”
Since 2012, Habitec implemented a false alarm abuser mailing campaign, joined a committee with Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) and the Toledo Police Department to work on a false alarm department policy.
Additionally, the firm has developed internal alarm procedure changes to decrease false panic alarms and false exterior motion, and added video alarm response to better respond to alarm signals.
“We believe the process of reducing false alarms has reduced the workload on our dispatchers while helping to better protect our customers,” Smythe says.
