RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. — Hanwha Techwin America, a global provider of video surveillance solutions, will enter the smart home security market with two new advanced cameras that are billed as digital-assistant and smart speaker-friendly.
The company announced the immediate availability of its new SmartCam N1 and N2, which are said to offer numerous feature sets for smart home enthusiasts. The SmartCam series models are accessible by voice with Alexa or Google Assistant commands, through which owners can request a daily briefing or arm and disarm the cameras. Both models feature 1080p full HD monitoring.
“Hanwha wanted to create indoor security cameras that fit the fast-paced and busy lifestyles of our customers,” says Richard Simone, vice president of sales and marketing at Hanwha Techwin America. “By integrating smart assistant compatibility and advanced surveillance technology, our SmartCam N1 and N2 indoor cameras provide consumers with all the tools they need to easily monitor their homes no matter where they are.”
Hanwha Techwin’s facial recognition and human detection technology is enabled by the SmartCam cameras’ proprietary Wisenet 5 chipset. When it’s active, users receive alerts only if the camera detects people, as opposed to falling objects or pets walking around the house.
When face recognition is enabled, the camera sends alerts whenever an unidentified face or an “interested face” is detected via the Wisenet SmartCam+ app, according to the company.
Users can assign a name to the person’s face and add them to their “Interested Faces” group, so the camera recognizes the face for future alerts. Users subscribed to the company’s SmartCloud service plan can also filter through videos based on specific individuals captured by face recognition.
The N1 and N2 models can store recordings using a microSD memory card (up to 128GB) or through Hanwha Techwin’s SmartCloud video storage service. Subscription plans for SmartCloud are available for event storage for five, seven or 21 days.
The cameras’ audio capabilities include duplex two-way talk, basic audio detection, and a setting for abnormal sound detection, which can notify homeowners of particular noises such as a glass breaking or a baby crying.
