Two access control device manufacturers announced the launch of a new device incorporating technology from both companies to provide users with the first integrated physical/data access control device.

An integration of Rainbow Technology Inc.’s iKey universal standard bus authentication token and HID Corp.’s 125kHz proximity access control technology, the RFiKey will give employees access to secure company locations and critical data and applications.

According to the companies, a user could wave the RFiKey in front of an HID door reader and the door would open if access were authorized.

The key could also be inserted into an employee’s PC USB port, and he could log onto the company’s network using a personal identification number. Once the key is removed, the employee is locked out of the system.

If lost, the token has no company names or photographs to allow someone to gain physical access with it.
