PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A rise in home surveillance systems helped Clearwater Police catch a criminal.
On Tuesday, police arrested the person responsible for a deadly hit and run thanks to footage gathered from at least four different home surveillance systems in the area. The video surveillance systems caught a shot of the car involved in the accident, as reported by ABC Action News.

“As you work an investigation, one of the first things you do is canvas the area for witnesses,” said Chief Daniel Slaughter of Clearwater Police. “Well, now the first thing you do is canvas the area for witnesses and video cameras.”
Ian Robinson of Privacy Electronics in Pinellas Park said more people are buying video surveillance systems as prices drop and systems continue to advance.
“The technology keeps making leaps and bounds, and it’s making it more and more cost effective for you to buy a home security system for yourself,” he said.
