MIAMI — A confrontation between a homeowner and a burglar here led to the death of the burglar, according to police.
A 54-year-old woman returned to her home in Northwest Miami-Dade after receiving word that her home alarm was going off on Thursday evening. Police say she was armed when she returned home and found the burglar leaving through the back of the house, according to CBS Miami.
That’s when the apparent altercation occurred that resulted in shots being fired. The burglar, a 17-year-old male, was shot and police were on the scene within seconds of the shooting to give CPR to the teenager. He later died at the hospital.
The identities of both parties involved have not been released. However, the homeowner is cooperating with detectives and went to the police station for questioning as the police try to piece together the puzzle of what transpired, according to the report.
“She’s a person that is a little distraught because this is her home that someone obviously was in,” said Miami-Dade Police Department Det. Dan Ferrin.

Ferrin wants the public to remember that in these types of situations, it’s best not to take matters into your own hands. Call police instead.
“If there’s any type of situation that happens or they believe there’s a burglary at the home or any type of confrontation, dial 911,” Ferrin said. “Have the police make that confrontation. That’s what we’re here for.”
Details on how the burglar entered the home or what was taken have not been released.
