Honeywell Int’l is scheduled to cut 290 jobs from Hand Held Products Inc. in upstate New York over the next nine to 12 months as the firm moves its remaining manufacturing operations to China due to increased domestic production costs.
Hand Held Products became a part of Honeywell’s Security Group within the Automation and Control Solutions (ACS) business in 2007. The Skaneateles Falls facility manufactures bar-code scanners, data- and image-collection devices, and mobile computers.
Honeywell will cut Hand Held Product’s local work force in half by eliminating 290 jobs over the next year. The first of the cuts begin in the fourth quarter. Another 290 people who work in customer support, research and development and marketing will continue working in the company’s building in Skaneateles Falls.
Kevin Jost, vice president for global strategy with Honeywell Security, says about 40 percent of the unit’s products are already made in China.
